A series statement for a series title, statement of responsibility, etc. Field 490 does not serve as a series access point. When field 490 is used and a series access point is appropriate, both the series statement in field 490 and a corresponding series access point in field 800, 810, 811, or 830 are recorded in the bibliographic record.

Guidelines

For unpublished and manuscript material, do not use field 490 since series statements do not apply. Record series-like phrases in field 500.
