NetLibrary Media Center System Requirements

Before you install NetLibrary Media Center, be sure that:

• You have a NetLibrary account and
• Your computer meets the installation requirements described below.
  

Supported operating systems

• Microsoft Windows Vista with Service Pack 1 or later, or
• Microsoft Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or later

Note: Media Center is designed and supported for use with these operating systems. It is not designed or supported for use with other operating systems, earlier Microsoft operating systems, or Apple or Linux-based computers.

Required software

• Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0, and
• Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, and
• Windows Media Player 11

Note for Windows Vista users: You have Windows Media Player 11 and .NET Framework 2.0 because they are included with Windows Vista. If you do not have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, it will be automatically installed for you when you install Media Center.

Note for Windows XP users: If you do not have Windows Media Player 11 and .NET Framework 2.0, you must install them before you install Media Center. If you do not have .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, it will be automatically installed for you when you install Media Center.

To see if you have Windows Media Player 11 and .NET Framework 2.0:

1. Go to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs.
2. Look for Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0 and then look for Windows Media Player 11 in the list of installed programs.
3. Close Add or Remove Programs and Control Panel.

Download .NET Framework 2.0 if you do not have it.

Download Windows Media Player 11 if you do not have it.

Hardware requirements

• Processor
  Required: A 233-megahertz (MHz) processor, such as an Intel Pentium II or Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) processor. Recommended: A 1.5-gigahertz (GHz) processor or faster.
• System memory (RAM)
  Required: 128 megabytes (MB). Recommended: 512 MB or higher.
• Free hard disk space
  Required: 500 MB. Recommended: 60 gigabytes (GB).
• Internet connection
  Required: Internet connection and 28.8 kilobits per second (Kbps) modem. Recommended: Active Broadband connection.
• Sound card: Required
  16-bit sound card. Recommended: 24-bit sound card.
• Monitor: Required/Recommended
  Super VGA (1024 x 768) resolution or higher resolution.
• Video card
  Required: Video card with 64 MB of RAM (video RAM or VRAM) and DirectX 9.0b. Recommended: Video card with 256 MB of RAM or higher and DirectX 9.0b or later.

User level requirements

• You must have local administrator privileges to install Media Center.

Portable listening device

• A USB 1.1 (or later) port available on your computer and
• A compatible portable listening device.

Getting Started

Activate Media Center for your library

In order to provide users with access to the Media Center, you will need to complete a Media Center Activation Request and return to NetLibrary. Be sure to include your library name and ID along with staff contact information.
