Getting Started with WorldCat Local
Activation of new WorldCat Local sites is managed by a team of WorldCat activation specialists who provide the expertise, resources and tools to guide library staff through the integration of WorldCat Local with library systems. Activation managers work with library staff to leverage staff's knowledge to ensure WorldCat Local is configured to meet libraries' needs.
Just Getting Started?
Now that you've decided to use WorldCat Local, there are a number of steps you can take to prepare for system activation. The steps below will help ensure a smooth transition as you begin to integrate WorldCat Local with your current library system. If you have further questions, contact your OCLC representative.
Step 1
Follow the steps in the WorldCat Local Getting Started Guide (coming soon) to prepare for your activation.
Step 2
You receive an invitation from OCLC which includes your WorldCat Local URL, as well as webinar schedule and registration information, links to WorldCat Local tutorials, and other information.
Step 3
Optionally, you may attend an introductory webinar to assist you in understanding WorldCat Local and the overall activation process.
Step 4
After the webinar, you receive a follow-up message with links to:
- The WorldCat Local customization form
- Online registration to attend a WorldCat Local configuration webinar
Step 5
Attend the configuration webinar.
Step 6
After the configuration webinar, you receive follow-up communication.
Step 7
Complete and submit the customization form.
Step 8
OCLC updates your configuration, based on your responses on the customization form, and notifies you when your changes have been made.
Step 9
Complete the order form to purchase WorldCat Local. See the Ordering link in the side column.
Step 10
OCLC transitions you to ongoing support and registers your library to begin receiving Omniture® reports.
Advanced User?
Ongoing support for WorldCat Local libraries is managed at OCLC. Built on the foundation of WorldCat.org and delivered at the network level, WorldCat Local is enhanced regularly with new features and functionality as it is added to WorldCat.org. OCLC also manages library-specific support for individual sites on an ongoing basis.
