Selected Titles

OCLC Selected Titles for University and Research Libraries is a quarterly collection development guide for university and research libraries. Libraries use it as a selection tool to enhance their collections of English-language materials.

Comprehensive, current information

Books listed in Selected Titles are carefully selected to make your library's selection of books faster and easier. For inclusion in Selected Titles, books must meet the following selection criteria:

  • English-language books published by the 50 highest volume publishers (in terms of the number of titles that have passed the threshold in each issue)
  • Selected and cataloged by 10 or more members of the Association of Research Libraries, a not-for-profit organization representing more than 120 research libraries in the United States and Canada
  • Published in the current year and the immediate past year
  • Based on records entered into WorldCat (the OCLC Online Union Catalog) in the one-year period preceding each of the three quarterly issues
  • Books that have passed the threshold for the first time included in each of the quarterly issues
  • Books that have passed the threshold for the first time since publication of the third quarterly issue, plus all the records published in the preceding three quarterly issues, included in the annual cumulative issue. (The number of ARL holdings are updated for the annual cumulative issue.)

Convenient listings

Titles are arranged by subject in the order of Dewey Decimal Classification system. Author and title indices are included at the end of each guide.

Published quarterly

Selected Titles is published quarterly in April, July, and October of each year, with an annual cumulative issue published in January.
