Recent enhancements to Connexion client
Connexion client 2.10
(Completed: December 2007)
Connexion client 2.10, released in December 2007, includes the enhancements listed below.
All Connexion client users must upgrade to client 2.10. Client 1.7X and 2.00 users will have until April 1, 2008 to upgrade to the new version. Beginning April 1, you cannot log on with older versions of Connexion client. To verify your version number, go to the Help menu and select About OCLC Connexion Client. The complete version number for client 2.10 is 2.10.2909.22845.
Please review the Update the Connexion client section of the getting started document prior to upgrading to client 2.10.
- The new macro commands GetListCellData and GetListCellDataUnicode allow you to retrieve the data shown in a particular column on a particular line in a list. You specify the row, the column title and the value or data within the column which you want to retrieve.
- You can turn on an option to be warned before you export a record that includes unlinked non-Latin fields. If unlinked non-Latin fields exist in a bibliographic record, the warning displays when you take the Action >Export Record command. Activate the option under Tools >Options >Export.
- Previously, when you used the Lock Linked Authority Record command for a field in a bibliographic record that has multiple headings linked (controlled) to different authority records, the client locked the authority record linked to the first controlled heading in the field. Now, a new window opens with a list of the controlled headings in the field so that you can choose the heading linked to the authority record you want to lock.
- You can link 655 genre headings in bibliographic records to the associated authority records. The Library of Congress began distributing authority records with x55 tags in September 2007.
- In WorldCat lists, you can display a column CatL that indicates when the language of cataloging (040 $b) is present in bibliographic records. Right click on the list and choose List settings to display the additional data.
-
Export bibliographic records in additional Dublin Core formats including Dublin Core Simple, OCLC Dublin Core Simple, and OCLC Dublin Core Qualified. Previously only Dublin Core Qualified was available.
- Import bibliographic records in Dublin Core Qualified and Dublin Core Simple, both in XML with the UTF-8 character set. Before completing the Import command, go to File/Import/Record Characteristics to change the Record Standard from MARC 21 to either Dublin Core Qualified or Dublin Core Simple. The data is crosswalked to a MARC record (Books format) for you to complete editing.
- Client 2.10 will support the addition of references with non-Latin characters to name authority records in the LC/NACO Authority File. As announced by the Library of Congress, the use of non-Latin scripts will be limited to those scripts that are represented in the MARC-8 repertoire (Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, Korean, Persian, Hebrew, Yiddish, Cyrillic, and Greek). The actual date of when this functionality will be supported will be determined by the Library of Congress and partners; however, it will be no earlier than April 2008. See the Library of Congress Web site for more information.

Resolutions to reported problems as noted in the Known Problems document.

Note: if you are upgrading from Connexion client 1.7X, see the Connexion client 2.00 enhancement list for other changes that will be new to you.
Connexion digital import
(Completed: December 2007)
- Use the new OCLC Connexion digital import feature with Connexion client (version 2.0 or higher) to add digital items to CONTENTdm collections during the Connexion cataloging process. The latest release of the CONTENTdm® Digital Collection Management Software (version 4.3) supports the Connexion digital import and makes it's even easier for libraries to integrate digital collection growth into their current cataloging workflows.
- Connexion client catalogers attach a digital file (or files, if more than one digital file is associated with the same record) to their WorldCat record. The digital file is then added to the designated CONTENTdm collection along with its associated metadata record. Metadata records are mapped to Qualified Dublin Core when added to the CONTENTdm collection, TIFF images are converted to JPEG2000, and OCR is performed for TIFF images comprising compound objects. PDF processing occurs if enabled in the CONTENTdm collection. Additionally, the OCLC number from the WorldCat record is added to the new OCLC number administrative field in CONTENTdm.
Genre headings
(Completed: September 2007)
- Search, display, and export authority records with heading x55 tags distributed by the Library of Congress using the new Genre index (ge:). The x55 tagged authority records are also indexed in the LCSH index. An example of a Genre authority record is sh2007025004 (ARN 7519072), Fiction films. Note: the Genre index label is included in the index dropdown list in authority search and browse dialogs in Connexion client 2.00; if using client 1.7X, enter a command line search using the index label ge.
