Cataloging Label Program frequently asked questions
General questions
Importing
- How do I import label information?
You can import labels from a text file created in Connexion browser or client. It can be created for you as part of the WorldCat Cataloging Partners service.
Location and names of the data files must be verified before importing. In Connexion client, the default label file location is: X:\Program files\OCLC\Connexion\Program\Labels.txt
When ready to import, click the Import button on the toolbar, or select Import from the File menu. At the Import File window, select the file to be imported. Then click the Open button. Select the format of the label data being imported and click OK. After the label data has been imported into the Label Program, a message appears indicating that the import was successful, and a prompt appears to delete the data file.
Printing
- Can I use an Hewlett-Packard 5P or 6P Laser printer?
For Hewlett-Packard 5 and 6 Laser printers, install the HP III, HP4, or earlier printer driver. Do not set it as the default driver, as it affects printing from other Windows applications. Select the printer driver from the Print Options window in the OCLC Cataloging Label Program. This should solve problems printing labels using SL4 format.
- Using an old dot-matrix printer, can I print labels?
Your printer may be able to print labels from the Cataloging Label program. Older dot-matrix printers have DIP switches, which control carriage return, line feed, and printer emulation. (See your printer manual for information on DIP switches.) The printer emulation must match the printer driver used by the Cataloging Label program. You may need to install additional printer driver(s) through the Add Printer Wizard. Select the printer driver from the Print Options window in the Cataloging Label Program.
- How do I print a label other than the first label on a sheet?
Open the Options menu, select Print and turn on the option for prompt for options. Now when you print labels, the software asks which column and row to begin printing.
Note: This answer does not apply to continuous paper.
- What font and font size should I use?
For best results with a variety of printers, use the default font (ALA BT Courier) and the default default size (12 points). OCLC designed the program around this font and point size. Other fonts and sizes may work. However, OCLC cannot guarantee that a different font and/or font size will produce correctly formatted labels.
