OCLC named among Computerworld’s Best Places to Work in IT

DUBLIN, Ohio, USA,  1 July 2008—For the third straight year, OCLC, the world's largest library service and research organization, based in Dublin, Ohio, has been named one of Computerworld's Best Places to Work in IT.

"It can be hard to pin down a single reason why a particular company is a great place to work," states IDG's Computerworld. "At OCLC, it boils down to a company culture that combines respect for employees and a strong familial atmosphere."

The Best Places to Work in Information Technology (IT) list is an annual ranking of the top 100 work environments for technology professionals compiled by Computerworld. The lists are compiled based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention. In addition, Computerworld conducts extensive surveys of IT workers, and their responses factor heavily in determining the rankings.

OCLC placed number 51 on the 2008 list, up from 86 in 2007.

"We are very gratified by this recognition from Computerworld," said Jay Jordan, OCLC President and CEO. "OCLC's IT staff works in a challenging environment. We operate eight engineering centers in Germany, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom, as well as in the United States. We assemble local and virtual teams who are developing Web-scale services for libraries and other cultural heritage institutions around the world. We will continue to work hard at making OCLC an ideal place for innovation and global teamwork for all employees."

OCLC is a nonprofit library service and research organization that has provided computer-based cataloging, reference, resource sharing, eContent, preservation, library management and Web services to 60,000 libraries in 112 countries and territories. OCLC and its member libraries worldwide have created and maintain WorldCat, the world's richest online resource for finding library materials. More information can be found at http://www.oclc.org.

"The competitive edge sought by the best and smartest companies is no longer information technology itself," said Scot Finnie, Editor In Chief of Computerworld. "After all, IT has permeated the business processes of almost every department of virtually every enterprise. The new competitive edge is finding and retaining the very best people to chart and implement your IT strategy."
