Electronic Collections Online

OCLC is no longer accepting new or renewal subscriptions to Electronic Collections Online e-journals. On February 1, 2012, the service will transition to archive-only access that will provide ongoing access to content included in past subscriptions.

This change supports OCLC's strategy, announced in March 2010, to stop hosting and reselling electronic content in order to focus its efforts on providing vendor-neutral discovery services from which libraries can delivery content in their collections to their users.

Subscribers to Electronic Collections Online e-journals may continue to provide access to the content from their past e-journal subscriptions by maintaining an access account to the service archive. To insure uninterrupted access to this content, OCLC will set up each library's access account and include the annual fee in the January 2012 OCLC bill. Libraries that do not wish to maintain access to content from past Electronic Collections Online subscriptions may contact orders@oclc.org to request that this access is disabled.

When a library maintains access to the Electronic Collections Online archive, its authenticated users may continue to search the Electronic Collections Online bibliographic database on FirstSearch, WorldCat.org, WorldCat Local and WorldCat Local "quick start" and link to the full-text articles they identify through their searches. Articles from past subscribers' e-journal subscriptions will continue to be available to authenticated users as a source of full-text within those services.

As we move forward with the development of cloud-based service, OCLC staff will continue their work on behalf of its members to provide access to as much quality content as possible through these services.
