Electronic Collections Online : Overview : Access stability
Stable and convenient access to the collectionsOCLC is working to ensure that your access to electronic journals is as stable and convenient as your collection of print journals—but without the storage and management problems of print collections. A history of reliability and commitment to continuing accessAn online service provider for nearly 30 years, OCLC serves more than 69,000. This history, combined with OCLC’s expertise, online resources, and its mission to serve its membership, assure your library of ongoing access to Electronic Collections Online 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A familiar face for usersWith Electronic Collections Online, your library accesses the journals to which you subscribe (current and back issues) through the Web, using a standard browser and commonly used plug-in software such as Adobe’s Acrobat Reader. And the standard FirstSearch interface supports basic, advanced, and expert searching, as well as extensive browsing capabilities. After users locate an article of interest, retrieval of full text is as easy as following the link from the search results. Common data formats for compatibilityOCLC strives to limit the number of journal data formats and helper applications needed to display them. As such, we currently support HTML and PDF (Adobe’s Portable Document Format) as display formats for content in Electronic Collections Online. We strongly encourage publishers to supply their data in PDF, which provides users a high-quality article image that they can easily download, print, or store. Long-lasting access rightsYour library retains the right to access all journals to which you have subscribed even after you discontinue subscriptions to any of them. In addition, if you discontinue your Electronic Collections Online access account, OCLC will maintain your subscription profile for five years. If you renew your access account before five years have passed, you will regain access to all of the journals to which you had subscribed.
