Browsing LCSH for Antarctica retrieves the numbers 919.89; 919.8904 and 999. Table 2 gives Antarctica as -989. Why is 999 retrieved/indexed to Antarctica when 999 is for Extraterrestrial worlds?
The reason 999 was retrieved is that the LCSH: "Antarctica" and "Antarctica --History" have been associated to this record through a statistical mapping algorithm. More information about these mappings is available in the following tip: http://www.oclc.org/dewey/updates/tips/webdewey/newwine.htm
Specifically, the built number 919.89 refers to Antarctica--geography, and the built number 919.8904 refers to Antarctica--travel. In this case, it's more helpful to browse the Relative Index instead.
