WorldCat Local : Interface features
Features of WorldCat LocalTo your Web-savvy patrons, WorldCat Local looks like part of your library's online experience and feels like other search and social sites they use regularly. Local brandingYour WorldCat Local masthead is customized with your logo or name and your choice of link and background colors for the identity (1) and search box zones. You can have up to four links to online services or informational pages elsewhere on your Web site. The WorldCat menu bar (2) gives your users fast access to the tools and preferences associated with their WorldCat user account.
Search resultsWorldCat Local search results present items from your collection first (1), followed by those held by your consortium or group, and finally those held by WorldCat libraries globally. Finding aids and social tools from WorldCat.org are included, such as results sorting (2), faceted browse (3) and saving found items to a personal, sharable list (4).
Item record: Location and availabilityAn item record in WorldCat Local lets your patrons quickly determine if the work is the correct one via the same evaluative information and links (1) used on WorldCat.org. Users know where to "get it" (2) with best options for fulfillment displayed prominently, including access to full text and/or your ILS' facility for placing a hold or resource-sharing request. Shelf location and current status (3) are shown for your main location, with availability at group or branch locations easily expanded (4).
Item record: Local services and WorldCat library listingsItem records also show links to related services (1) on your library's network relative to the displayed item. Patrons who use your WorldCat Local catalog from within your defined IP address range see these additional options. When necessary, they can also locate the item at other WorldCat libraries using the WorldCat.org location search (2).
