For batchload services, the delimiter is entered as a dollar sign ($). If immediately followed by a lowercase letter or single numeral, OCLC converts the dollar sign into a delimiter. A $ followed by a numeral and period, two or more numerals, or a blank space is interpreted as a monetary value and is not converted.
Enter diacritics after the letters they modify.
You can enter diacritics and special characters in the following ways:

Actions that libraries are permitted to take on records are part of each library's cataloging profile and are identified by the system by the authorization the library uses to log on.

Any time you edit a record without first locking it, you are making local edits. The record is not locked. Therefore, other users can retrieve it, edit it locally or lock and edit the corresponding master record. You can edit a record locally regardless of whether another user has locked the master record. While editing a record locally, you can add, delete or change the record content to meet your library's needs and then export the record.
To unlock the master record, take the Release Record Lock action (Action list) or Cancel Changes (Edit list) or replace the record in the database (Replace Record or Replace and Update Holdings).
If you save a locked master record, the system saves the locked record for 14 days, and then (if you do not edit or resave the record) deletes it from the save file. Other catalogers can view the record and edit it locally while it is locked.

In the Connexion client only, catalogers can also use local save files while logged on or offline ("local" means that they are stored on a workstation or shared drive).
Online and local save files can store up to 9,999 records.
To start a cataloging session, you need an OCLC Cataloging authorization number and password. To start a Dewey-Only session, you need an OCLC Cataloging service authorization that includes a subscription to WebDewey and/or Abridged WebDewey or an authorization for Dewey Services only. An inactivity timer ends a session automatically after a period of no interaction with the server. For cataloging sessions, 40 minutes of inactivity is the default setting; for Dewey Services-only sessions, 120 minutes.
A subject heading may be subdivided by the addition of subheadings (example: Libraries--History--20th century) or include a parenthetical qualifier for semantic clarification, as in Mice (Computers).
The use of cross-references to indicate semantic relations between subject headings is called syndetic structure.
The process of examining the content of new publications and assigning appropriate subject headings is called subject analysis.
