Electronic Collections Online : Visão geral : Ongoing access
Ensuring ongoing accessHistory has shown repeatedly that archives are only as good as the provisions to duplicate and secure them. To that end, OCLC has taken a number of steps to ensure the continuity and preserve the integrity of the Electronic Collections Online databases. Offsite archives for continuityOCLC has prepared for unforeseen events by storing an archival copy of all journal content and the associated abstract and index file in our off-site storage facility. This archive is updated at regular intervals and includes all the content available through the service as well as the software that comprises the online service. Find out about other components of our innovative journal archiving solutions. FirstSearch integration for flexibilityOCLC has integrated Electronic Collections Online with the popular FirstSearch online reference service, which can evolve to accommodate new technology and the changing information needs of libraries. Provisions for future data formatsAs data formats become outmoded, OCLC will encourage participating publishers to provide their current data in a single, widely used format. OCLC also reserves the right to migrate journal backfile to new data formats as current formats (such as PDF) become outmoded. And we will ensure access to non-migrated data through an adequate and available mechanism. Commitment from publishersOCLC works to ensure that your electronic journals will always be available. All participating publishers commit to making available digital copies in the event a journal ceases publication or the publisher goes out of business. Your subscriptions will be provided in a format that enables you to locally access the information using current technology.
