NetLibrary offers new international eAudiobook collections
DUBLIN, Ohio, USA, 3 February 2006 —NetLibrary, a division of OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc., and a leading platform for full-text digital content in libraries worldwide, together with Recorded Books, Inc., has expanded distribution of their eAudiobook program to libraries in Latin America and Asia Pacific.
The eAudiobooks Core Collection for these markets contains a variety of English-language best-sellers, book club favorites and award-winning titles.
Launched in February 2005, eAudiobook collections from NetLibrary and Recorded Books have experienced rapid growth, with thousands of libraries now offering electronic audio material. eAudiobooks are an easy and convenient way for library users to listen to electronic materials, and users can search, preview and download materials from their personal computers at home.
"eAudiobooks are an exciting new addition to the constantly growing NetLibrary collection of digital content," said Richard Rosy, Vice President of Content Management, OCLC. "Reception to this program has been extremely positive, and we are pleased to now be able to offer this program to the Latin American and Asia Pacific markets."
Library users can check out up to 10 high-quality eAudiobooks, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. eAudiobooks can be downloaded or played on any desktop, laptop or portable device supporting Windows Media Player version 9 and above. Users can also transfer favorite titles to a wide range of portable devices, including portable music players, portable media centers, Pocket PCs and even select Smartphone devices.
Unlimited, simultaneous access is provided, and concerns about physical wear on materials or limited availability of titles is eliminated. In addition, the NetLibrary/Recorded Books eAudiobook program ensures that libraries are better able to meet the needs of users because the program provides for a continuous flow of new titles that are added monthly.
The Latin American and Asian Pacific collections join the existing NetLibrary eAudiobook collection suite including: the eAudiobooks Core Collection; the eAudioEssentials Collection; the eAudiobooks Pimsleur Language Series Collection; the eAudiobooks CEV Holy Bible; the eAudiobooks Popular Fiction Collection; and the Children's/Young Adult eAudiobook Collection.
The eAudiobooks Core Collection features more than 1,300 of the latest eAudiobook best-sellers and book club favorites. The eAudioEssentials Collection contains 123 literary classics from writers such as James Joyce, Mark Twain, Victor Hugo and more. The eAudiobooks Pimsleur Language Series Collection features easy-to-use language lessons in 39 languages for several learning levels and ESL students. Library users can listen to the most authentic unabridged translation of the original Greek and Hebrew manuscripts of the Holy Bible with the eAudiobooks CEV Holy Bible Collection. The eAudiobooks Popular Fiction Collection contains more than 135 of the most popular works of fiction by authors such as Patricia Cornwell, Stephen King and more. The Children's/Young Adult eAudiobook Collection includes fiction titles from publishers such as Newberry and Caldecott, and includes time tested classics as well as bestsellers.
All collections are narrated by experienced, professional actors and produced in state-of-the-art studios to ensure library users have access to the highest quality eContent possible. When downloading eAudiobooks, users can select from radio-quality or CD-quality files. Radio-quality provides faster download speeds and is ideal for users with dial-up connections. CD-quality offers high-fidelity playback for users with high-speed Internet access.
