'Work Less, Live More' is NetLibrary eBook for May

DUBLIN, Ohio, USA,  28 April 2006 —NetLibrary, a leading platform for full-text digital content in libraries worldwide, is featuring Work Less, Live More: The New Way to Retire Early, a guide to early semi-retirement by Bob Clyatt, as its May eBook of the Month.  This eBook will be provided free and with unlimited access May 1-31 through more than 14,000 participating libraries.

Conventional wisdom says that unless you're rich you should work full-time to age 65.  But millions of Americans are surprisingly close to something even better than retirement—early semi-retirement. Using the secrets in NetLibrary's May eBook of the Month, readers will learn how to work less and start living a more fulfilling life.

A growing group of audacious early semi-retirees have stepped off the treadmill of full-time work.  Instead, they uncover meaningful second careers and avocations, working part-time or volunteering, while restoring a healthy balance between work and life. As a result, they tend to enjoy improved health, relationships and personal growth.

Work Less, Live More: The New Way to Retire Early shows how you can be part of this growing group. Author Bob Clyatt draws on his own experience and that of hundreds of others, distilling their collective wisdom into four main strategies:

  • Rational long-term investing, based on buy-and-hold index investing and the asset allocation research of Harry Markowitz and Merton Miller, whose work won the 1990 Nobel Prize
  • A safe, lifelong withdrawal method for living off your savings
  • Sensible spending
  • Living outside the culture of consumption and overwork

Work Less, Live More: The New Way to Retire Early is more than a how-to guide. With inspiring anecdotes from many early semi-retirees, it makes a case for taking on a reasonable amount of part-time work that is meaningful and fulfilling.  Rather than fleeing work entirely, these escapees from the grind gravitate toward work they love.

Provided through the generous support of Nolo, Work Less, Live More: The New Way to Retire Early will be available through more than 14,000 libraries that provide NetLibrary eBooks.

Author Bob Clyatt retired from full-time work at 42.  He works part-time as a writer and sculptor while pursuing such interests as community service, gardening and yoga.  He lives with his wife and two sons in Westchester County, New York.

The NetLibrary eBook of the Month increases awareness of online resources and highlights the value of a library's eBook collection.
