Cut a giant e in your library lawn!

Inside the library

  • Produce window clings for glass doors or restroom mirrors.
  • Set up a hammock—or a piece of furniture that is not likely to be in a library—and advertise eBooks being available wherever users are.
  • Trim off the tape edges on the table tents, cut into sections and make a hanging mobile.
  • Set up a Lego city in your foyer and mark all the places in your community from which a person could access eBooks.
  • Place a map on the wall and use pushpins to mark all the locations in the world that a person can access your eBook collection.
  • Make computer monitor crowns that highlight eBooks and use them throughout your library—customize each crown to reflect a subject in your eCollection.
  • Give out luggage tags that say: "Wherever you go, our eBooks are available. At (your library Web site URL)."
  • Places paper Es around your library and hold a contest to see how many patrons can find—give everyone who plays a certificate that reads "I found e everywhere" and include information about your eCollection.
  • Make a poster with a giant X and the headline "eBooks Available Here" and secure it to the floor in front of computer terminals.

Outside the library

  • Do chalk drawings in the parking lot.
  • Add a sign to your library hours placard that says: "Even when we're closed, our eBooks are still available through our Web site."
  • Place signs next to the late-night drop box about eBooks being available anytime—check out and back in without leaving your seat.
  • Cut a giant e in your library lawn. Add "Available Here" if your library is in an airport flight path.
  • Add a message to your library after-hours answering machine.
  • Add a message to your book availability notification system.
  • Add a copy message on your checkout receipts.
  • Include a copy message on overdue notices.

Online

  • Promote the free eBook of the Month feature hosted by NetLibrary.
  • Ask local Internet Service Providers to advertise your free eBooks on their Web site to customers—suggest it as part of a public service announcement or community outreach program.
  • Create an e-mail comment list on your Web site and ask eBook users to send a note and tell you where they were when they accessed your eBooks.

In your community

  • Place flyers at area coffee shops.
  • Make sandwich boards that say "Available Here" and post them in community hot zones (wireless areas).
  • Offer public demonstrations about how easy it is to use eBooks.
  • Ask your local school system to place flyers in teachers' mailboxes about the availability of your NetLibrary collection—promote them as quality reference tools available online.
  • Partner with area coffee shops, cafes or other stores offering wireless Internet access to post "eBooks Available Here" posters. Consider positioning it to patrons as a joint offering between your library and the business. This approach stands a better chance of success with securing the business owner's support.
  • Place flyers on car windshields at community events.

Around campus

  • Make cafeteria tray liners.
  • Place table tents in the student union.
  • Give demonstrations to students and professors about eBooks as research tools.
  • Hang flyers on exercise equipment at student health centers.
  • Set up signs in the park or commons.
