Implementation Steps: Building your WorldCat knowledge base

Get Started

• Complete the request form to notify OCLC that you want to profile your electronic holdings in the WorldCat knowledge base.
• You will receive a personalized Welcome Guide that offers an overview of the implementation steps. After you build your knowledge base, you can use the data to support other OCLC services, such as WorldCat Resource Sharing, WorldCat Local, OCLC WorldShare Management Services and OCLC WorldShare License Manager.
• Register for a WorldCat knowledge base implementation webinar. The live session will review the implementation steps:
  • Go to https://oclc.webex.com.
  • Search for "knowledge base implementation" and sort by date by clicking on "Date" twice.

Build your knowledge base

• Many of your collections can be added to the knowledge base through OCLC's partner, Pubget. Log in to Pubget with the username and password from your customized Welcome Guide and provide information about your providers.
• Add providers/collections not found in Pubget in OCLC Service Configuration. See the following documentation for help:
  • Selecting and Modifying Collections
  • Add New Collections

Configure your Settings

• For an overview of available settings, consult the OCLC Service Configuration Guide for WorldCat knowledge base

• Set your holdings in WorldCat. Use your WorldCat knowledge base to synchronize your e-resources in WorldCat to ensure that your holdings are always up-to-date.

• Activate the Full Text "View Now" links (WorldCat Local & WorldShare Management Services libraries).

Enable Resource Sharing

1. Enable the Resource Sharing link in the First Search administrative module.

2. Use the appropriate instructions:
