Activate and customize per-article-use purchase

These administrative settings let you provide access to the full text of individual journal articles included in Electronic Collections Online on FirstSearch when your library does not maintain a subscription to the journal through Electronic Collections Online.

Journal settings. You turn on or off access to full text from individual journals included in your Electronic Collections Online on FirstSearch subscription. In some cases you can also enable per-article-use purchase, allowing full text from individual journals not covered by your FirstSearch subscription to be available for viewing.

Purchase settings. These settings let you control the cost of per-article-use purchase in Electronic Collections Online:

  • Create a per-article-use purchase budget. Set the maximum amount you are willing to pay for individual articles using per-article-use purchase in the Electronic Collections Online database on FirstSearch. Disable per-article-use purchase for journals that exceed this amount.
  • Select journals by price. Enable per-article-use purchase for all journals that have a current year or backfile price less than or equal to the maximum article price on the Purchase Settings screen. Disable per-article-use purchase for all other journals.
  • Set a maximum article price. Turns off links to the full text of articles that have a price greater than the maximum article price that you set.
  • Display the article price. Display each article’s price in the FirstSearch link to the article’s full text.
  • Request e-mail notices. You can choose to receive an e-mail when price changes for journals or articles go into effect or per-article-use purchase is enabled for a journal. You may also opt for an e-mail notice when the amount spent in the current month reaches your budget amount.
