OCLC offers a variety of services across the entire life cycle of a digital collection. Wherever you are in your digital collection process, simply choose the services that best meet your needs. Rely on a few, or all of our integrated services to plan, process and manage your digital collections.
Plan
Planning, getting started and keeping up with the latest technologies can seem overwhelming—that's why we’re right by your side.
Our services are designed to assist you through every phase of digitization and preservation. Additionally, since we help develop industry standards for metadata and best practices, we're always thinking ahead and planning for the next wave of technology.
The WorldCat Collection Analysis service helps you prioritize your digitization efforts. It lets you analyze your own collections—or compare it with peer collections—to see strengths, gaps and overlaps.
Process
One of the biggest expenditures in creating digital collections and preserving special collections is keeping up with the latest technology. We offer state-of-the-art digitization and preservation microfilming through our Preservation Service Centers.
If you need metadata records created, our metadata specialists have extensive experience with cataloging projects for institutions of all sizes and types. We can provide MARC records, Dublin Core records, or other types of metadata records with the fields you specify. If you need your CONTENTdm collection set-up and built —we can do that, too.
Manage
After creating your digital collections, there's the issue of how to store and manage all those digital objects and metadata. To help, we offer two complementary solutions:
- Turn digital collections into fully-searchable, Web resources available from any browser with CONTENTdm
- Manage storage and preservation of digital objects with the OCLC Digital Archive, which provides the long-term retention of digital resources
including special tools for Web content
- Have Preservation Service Center set-up and build your CONTENTdm collection
Discover
Once you’ve created your digital collections, help your users discover them on the Web and through access points like CONTENTdm. And by including your digital collection records in WorldCat, your collections will have even more visibility on the Web.
Once you've created your digital collections, WorldCat helps your user discover them on the Web. Including your digital collection records in WorldCat maximizes the way users will be directed to access points like CONTENTdm.
