OCLC Independent Members

OCLC encourages libraries to participate through regional service providers or international distributors, who offer a variety of support and training activities for libraries within their geographic area. However, if such a provider is unavailable to you, you may qualify for OCLC Independent membership.

Independent member libraries contract directly with OCLC for any and all OCLC products and services. Support for OCLC services comes through OCLC Customer Support. Training for OCLC products and services is available by arrangement through OCLC Independent Customer Support.

Independent libraries represent a cross-section of OCLC membership in general, with academic, public, corporate, special and school libraries participating. For more information about Independent membership in OCLC, please contact:

Training for Independent members

A variety of training options are available to Independent libraries.

  • Online courses and web-based training programs are available.
  • Product demonstrations and discussions may be held using Microsoft Live Meeting. Participation is through a current web browser and a telephone. These Web demonstrations are a joint venture among staff from Independent Customer Support, OCLC Canada and OCLC Western.
  • Instructor-led training for OCLC products and services is arranged at your request . These sessions may be held at OCLC headquarters in in Dublin, Ohio, or at your library (training fees apply). Please contact Kathy Kie at OCLC for more information or to schedule a workshop.

Member meeting

An Independent Libraries Member Meeting is held at OCLC headquarters as needed. This meeting includes workshops, presentations by OCLC Product Managers on timely topics and new OCLC services, and discussions with colleagues from the Independent libraries. Separate agenda and registration information is developed and distributed via e-mail about six months prior to the meeting.
