Public Relations

Talk is cheap. Here are some additional free (or very inexpensive) ways to get the word out about the great work your library does.

Write to your congressperson

OCLC sent a letter to build awareness about libraries and library funding to every state representative in Ohio. Use our letter template as a possible starting point (PDF).

Do you send out a print or e-newsletter to your patrons or students? Include the ad image, with the following text (or a message of your own):

Public libraries

Did you know that NAME OF LIBRARY is a small business incubator? NAME OF BUSINESS, NAME OF BUSINESS and NAME OF BUSINESS all use the library to do research and find statistics.

Each business owner knows that your library supports the local economy. In fact, studies show that for every $1 spent on libraries, a community sees an average of $4 in return. Here in CITY, we might see even more of a return! Learn more about libraries as an economic investment at http://www.oclc.org/roi/ and then write to or e-mail NAME OF DECISION-MAKING BODY to express your support.

*Be sure to give specifics, such as names and addresses for decision-makers.*

Academic libraries

Feeling overwhelmed with the sheer amount of information you've collected? Need a friendly face to help you refocus your efforts?

The NAME OF LIBRARY staff can help. We offer virtual reference through the Web site at all times—day or night—and many of the library's journal subscriptions are available online in full text. Of course, we love to see you in person, too.

Make an appointment with one of our experienced reference librarians before you set out on your next big paper. They can help you find the best sources, use everything available from NAME OF CMS SYSTEM and help you complete your research in less time. Learn how other universities have done it at http://www.oclc.org/success/ and then contact us today, to discover how we can help you, with your research.

*Be sure to give specifics, such as names and times available, expected turnaround times for assistance, etc.*
