I am looking for girls (preadolescent age) in Table 1.  When I search 'girls' in the all index, I get 50 hits. How can I narrow my search?

You could Search for "girls" in the All Fields index along with "t1--*" in the Dewey Numbers index.  In this case, your search results are reduced to three including "T1--08342 Girls six to eleven." 

An alternative approach is to Browse the Relative Index for "girls" and select T1--083 (the second entry).  In the record for T1--083 Young people, you will see the following downward hierarchy:

T1--0832 *Infants
T1--0833 *Children three to five
T1--0834 *Children six to eleven
T1--08342 *Girls six to eleven

Then if you click on T1--0834 Children six to eleven, in the record you will see the downward hierarchy:

T1--08341 *Boys six to eleven
T1--08342 *Girls six to eleven
